Woman sleeping behind the wheel on I-90 exit accused of OVI: Westlake Police Blotter

A caller at 10:15 p.m. on August 9 reported seeing a woman fainted behind the wheel of a silver SUV at the top of the exit ramp onto Clague Road from I-90.

The driver was reportedly putting her head on the steering wheel. Officers found that the driver was still unconscious in the car and that the car stereo was exploding, according to a police department press release. Officers knocked on car windows to wake the woman and put the car in a parking lot.

The police department said the 36-year-old driver, who registered an address in Cleveland, appeared intoxicated and disoriented. She was field tested and arrested for running a car while intoxicated.

The officers noted that her blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit. The woman’s driver’s license was suspended before she was released to a sober person.

Crash: Clemens Road

A caller reported at 11:45 a.m. on August 7 that they saw a car driving over the curb on Clemens Road.

A police statement said the out-of-control vehicle hit a brickwork sign before returning to the road and fleeing the area. Officers located the suspicious vehicle, which had a flat tire, at Speedway on Detroit Road at Bradley Road. Officers collected auto parts from the damaged sign and matched them to the malfunctioning vehicle at the gas station.

The driver was tiptoeing and scratched. I went to the hospital by Westlake ambulance. Police will consider filing a fee as soon as lab results are available.

Stolen car: Bassett Road

At 8 a.m. on August 5, officers responded to an apartment complex on Bassett and Detroit Roads for a stolen vehicle.

The victim reported that they had parked their Kia in the area the night before. When they got back to the car in the morning, the only thing left was a pile of glass. The victim still has the car keys. The car was entered into police databases as stolen.

Robbery: Detroit Road

Mark’s staff called at 5:30 p.m. on August 8 to report that two men had stolen an air conditioning unit from the store.

The description of the vehicle was announced on police radio, and Officer Rocky River spotted and stopped the suspected drop-car on I-90. Three people occupied the car. The stolen A/C unit was recovered, and a passenger, a 50-year-old man from Brunswick, admitted taking the unit. The suspect also had warrants from Portage County, Avon, Brunswick, Cuyahoga County, Willoughby Hills, Strongsville and Westlake.

The suspect admitted that he knew he had several burglary notes, and said he was addicted to drugs, according to a police press release.

Stolen Cars: Detroit Highway

The Westlake Police Department received several reports of auto thefts on August 5 and August 11. All the thefts occurred during the night from apartment buildings on or near Detroit Road.

On August 5, a Kia Forte was taken from Bassett Garden Apartments and a Kia Sportage from Westfield Apartments. Sportage has been recovered by the Cleveland Police Department after it was involved in a crash in that city.

On August 11, Hyundai Accent was taken from Westwood Meadows Apartments, Kia Forte and Kia Sportage were taken from Westfield Apartments, and Kia Forte was taken from Marview Apartments.
