What are the most popular real estate listings photos? New HomeJab study reveals the answers

Professional real estate photographers hired by listing agents captured the images used for the search from a random pool of 600 properties up for sale early on. June 2022.

The HomeJab study – using computer vision technology Restb.ai found:

1. Bedroom photos topped the list. More than one in ten photos used to sell the house were bedroom photos (11.92%).

3. Pictures of the living room took third place with 10.79%.
4. Photos of bathrooms ranked fourth with 9.75%.

“When you go through listings of homes for sale online, you usually see an outside shot,” he said. Joe Jeswell, founder and CEO of HomeJab. “But this is not the most popular photo taken by real estate photographers. Instead, professionally shot photos of the kitchen and bedroom are the most common photos used to help sell homes,” he said.

HomeJab enlisted the help of leading real estate computer vision company, Restb.ai, to automatically sort thousands of photos of homes currently for sale, use its computer vision technology to identify the type of photo, and then sort and sort the photos.

The basement (1.22%), garage (1.12%), front door (1.11%), pool (1.11%), stairs (93%) and walk-in lockers (0.66%) were at the bottom. Other photos accounted for the remaining 16.38%.

Jeswell added: “It will be interesting to see if these numbers change over time – especially as access and use of drone footage for aerial photography and video increases. Because of the pandemic, will we see more images of home offices in the future? Time will tell.”
