Volvo XC90 Hybrid and XC40 Recharge To Follow The S90 And XC60 Hybrid In India

Volvo in India today launched the petrol hybrid models of the S90 luxury sedan and XC60 SUV. Volvo also announced that it will launch the XC40 Recharge, which will be its first electric car in the country.

Volvo will soon launch the XC90 Gasoline Hybrid and XC40 Recharge Electric SUV in India.

India’s Volvo Cars has announced that it will soon be driving a gasoline hybrid model of its XC90 SUV in the country. The announcement came during the launch of two more petrol hybrid models, the S90 and XC60, today. Volvo has also announced that it will soon launch the XC40 Recharge as its first electric model in India.

Both the XC90 and XC40 Recharge hybrid models have been launched in the global markets. The Swedish automaker previously said the launch of the XC40 Recharge SUV has been pushed back until early next year due to a global shoreline of semiconductor chips. Electric SUV bookings have also been postponed. Volvo will likely launch the XC40 Recharge in India in the first half of 2022. The automaker announced today that it will launch one electric car per year starting in 2022.

The Volvo XC40 has a recharge range of more than 400 kilometers on a single charge. It contains a 78 kWh battery to power its motor. The electric SUV is able to reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour in 4.7 seconds, and a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.

At its launch in India, the XC40 Recharge Electric SUV will join the luxury electric SUV segment to rival the likes of the Mercedes EQC, Jaguar I-PACE and Audi e-tron.

The new XC90 Recharge SUV will also come to India with a plug-in hybrid petrol powertrain. It will likely have the same 48V battery used in the S90 and XC60 models. The XC90 hybrid SUV is likely to get the same eight-speed Geartronic gearbox available for global markets. It may also be equipped with Shift-by-wire technology. The hybrid gasoline engine can provide a range of up to 50 kilometers when driving in electric mode.

Volvo XC90 Rechargeable SUV with Mild Hybrid Petrol Engine Currently Available in India at Starting Price R96.65 lakh (ex-showroom). It houses an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides a range of about 37 km in electric mode. The engine is capable of generating 299 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque.
