Whatever your interests, the Hudson Valley VA health care system has volunteer opportunities for you.
Here are some ways you can help. Other tasks not listed here may also be available. If you are interested in volunteering or have special skills to offer, please contact us so we can discuss how you can best help our patients. We also have short term special projects that we need help with from time to time. All volunteers must complete a background check.
Patient care.
- coffee programme: Prepare and serve refreshments.
- escort: Bring patients to medical clinics, chapels, recreation programs.
- Food and Nutrition: Help patients select and complete menus, open containers, cut food into bite-sized portions, and feed patients during meal times.
- front seat: Welcome outpatients, guests, visitors and patient families, answer phones, and transfer calls at the information desk.
- Single visit: Be a compassionate companion when you connect with No Veteran Dies Alone or visit our patients while they recover.
- Visiting pets: Bring your therapy dog to visit the veterans.
- Recreational: Help with arts and crafts projects, play bedside games, help with field trips, show bedside movies, and help therapists with activities.
- food pantry: Providing food to qualified veterans
- Attendant’s Dressing Room Volunteer: Distribute men’s and women’s clothing.
- Transportation: Transport patients from their homes in Dutchess County to Castle Point VA Medical Center. Vehicles donated by DAV. A background check and physical examination are required.
If you are a student between the ages of 14 and 18, volunteer with us this summer. You can learn more about health professions, sharpen your career skills, meet great people – and have fun.

Donation suggestions:
Some people like to donate money, while others like to donate things our veterans need. We appreciate all forms of generosity.
NB: We do not accept donations of VHS tapes, bar soap, wheelchair bags, casual DVDs, hotel toiletries, medical equipment or supplies, and aprons.
