Union County residents with old metal gutters, fencing, or disposal devices can bring these items and more to free up scrap metal recycling sites in July. The scrap metal recycling program is sponsored by the Union District Board of County Commissioners and takes place twice each month from April to November.
“This county-wide program helps bridge the service gap in some Union County municipalities that currently have no scrap metal recycling outlet,” said Rebecca Williams, Chair of the Board of Commissioners. “As a society, we’re benefiting across the board by recycling more and disposing of less waste – and we’ll also make some revenue from the program.”
Acceptable items for recycling include air conditioners, scrap aluminum, aluminum profiles, bicycles, copper, brass, dishwashers, electric fans, fencing (chain/wire), freezers, gutters, irons, garden furniture, metal safes, metal awnings, and microwave ovens. , pots and pans, railings, refrigerators, stoves, tire rims, toasters, washers and dryers, window frames (without glass), wire hangers.
Scrap metal deliveries will be accepted Thursday, July 7 and Saturday, July 16 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at two free delivery centers:
- Cranford: Emergency Services Building, 151 Kenilworth Street
- Rahway: Rahway River Park (follow Park Drive, Rahway off St. Georges Avenue to the service yard across from the pool)
Scrap metal from residents of any Union District municipality may be brought to any of these locations.
The upcoming Scrap Metal events will take place on Thursday, August 4th and Saturday, August 20th.
Please note that Union County scrap metal recycling events are for drive-only and contactless purposes only.
Participants must remain in their vehicles at all times. Items should be placed in the luggage compartment, cargo area, or trunk of the truck so that they are easy for personnel to remove.
