Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded 10,701 units in April 2022 versus 14,073 units with sales down 24% YoY

Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to be the best-selling sedans in the country in April 2022, with 10,701 units registered against 14,073 units during the same period in 2021 with negative sales growth of 24% YoY. The Honda Amaze finished second again with both compact cars dominating the roost.

Amaze reported total sales of 4,467 units last month versus 3,920 units during the corresponding period last year with a year-over-year volume increase of 14 percent. Hyundai Aura was the third best-selling sedan in India last month, registering 4,035 units versus 3,347 units in April 2021 with a year-on-year sales increase of 21%.

Tata Tigor has seen a turnaround in fortunes in recent months as it continues to post impressive year-over-year growth. The four-meter sedan garnered a total of 3,803 units last month compared to 1,627 units in April 2021 with sales increasing year-on-year by 134 percent while the Skoda Slavia beat its main rival Honda City with a total of 2,431 units.

The Slavia is ┼áKODA’s second model powered by the heavy-duty local content MQB A0 IN platform and is part of the India 2.0 project. Its sibling, the Volkswagen Virtus, will go on sale in the coming weeks as well. Both are powered by a 1.0-liter three-pot turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with MT and AT options.

In the second half of the table, the fifth-generation Honda City took sixth place with 2,300 units versus 3,128 units in April 2021 with sales down 26 percent year-over-year. A city hybrid variant with a claimed 26.8 kilometers per inch mileage was recently introduced. Another mid-size sedan, the Hyundai Verna scored 781 units versus 2.552 units.

This resulted in a decline of 69 percent year-on-year. The next generation Verna is up and running and could be launched sometime next year in India. Ciaz ranked eighth, ahead of the Skoda Octavia and Toyota Camry.
