The G-Wagon came from humble beginnings in the 1970s. Over the past two decades, it has evolved into the great SUV it is today and has become the top choice of all. But despite its evolution, G-Wagon has always maintained its legacy. He’s very straightforward about what he is, which is why people love him so much. Because of its practical design and capabilities, the G-Wagon has become a status symbol in the automotive industry, and most likely it is.
Today, the legendary Mercedes-Benz G-Class belongs to its own league. It ranks first in the large luxury SUV segment, mainly due to its fusion of luxury, technology, comfort and power. But a recent Business Insider report (spotted by AutoEvolution) shows that the German G-Wagon faces another price hike in 2022. This will make it one of the most expensive SUVs, with prices starting at $131,750 for the base trim and going up to 156,450 USD for the G63 AMG.
While the G-Wagon is the best SUV out there right now, it’s also become the most expensive option to date. Here’s why.
The most expensive Mercedes G-Class will increase in price by March 22, 2022
Recently, Mercedes-Benz documented changes to the G-Class that, among other things, highlighted the high retail price of the G-Wagon. While it was initially assumed that these changes apply only to the domestic market. But they’ll apply everywhere, according to the German brand. In the document, the brand further stated that the price increase “must be borne by customers”.
Currently, the base price for the base G-Class, the G550, is €99,680 in the German market, or $110,044 in the US As of March 22, the company states that the price will rise by up to 6.2%, after adding an additional inflation fee. €5,200 (or $5,793), and an additional fee through sequential enrichment of €965 ($1,075). This will raise the price to $131,750. A further 6.2% inflation fee, along with destination fees, and VAT would put the price at $140,968.50 for the US market. But we’ll be sure once the brand announces the Manufacturer’s Suggested Final Retail Price (MSRP).
The top-of-the-line G 63 AMG is facing a significant price increase from March 22nd. The price of the G63 starts at 136,725 euros in Germany, or about $153,300. From the already exorbitant price tag, the Mercedes has also been thrown at €8,325 ($9,274) as a sequential enrichment bonus, and then €7,000 ($7,798) as an inflation surcharge. The addition of VAT and destination fees would raise the price of the G63 to about $175,022.40 in the US market.
What makes the new 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class so expensive?
The brand debuted in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class in September of last year. For the G-Wagon 2022 model year, Mercedes has revised the standard equipment and packages on its luxury SUV. This includes a 12.3-inch digital display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. These two features pretty much steal the show within the G-Class. It also comes with some amazing standard features. This includes a 64-color interior interior lighting system and a Burmester stereo system. Under the hood, both models still have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, with the base trim engine producing 416 hp and the G63 AMG making up to 577 hp.
A highlight of the 2022 G-Class is the adaptation to a new concept, which changes not only the exterior, but also the interior. According to the brand, it is the first in the history of the G-Class. This also comes with new names, such as Professional Line. With the introduction of these new features, Mercedes aims to reduce the complexity of G-Wagon production in the future. This change will also improve the logic of the check sheet.
Also, the one thing that makes the G-Class expensive is its value. As we know, the majority of vehicles experience a rapid decline in value once they make their way out of the parking lot. No G-Wagon. They are some of the most powerful SUVs ever built. A used G-Wagon can sell for between 150% and 200% of the selling price, with some exceeding the price point. So, buying a new Mercedes-Benz G-Class is your best bet. However, the increase in price will not affect the rich group of buyers of the brand from enjoying all the luxury and power that the new G-Class has to offer.
