Is the Audi A3 a good car? After taking a short vacation, the A3 is back for 2022 and wants to establish itself as a competitive compact sports sedan. The A3 received a facelift for 2022 and its redesign looks great on the surface.
This is the cheapest new Audi you can buy in 2022, but is it worth the money? Check out the pros and cons of Audi A3 performance, handling, cabin quality, standard features, and technology options.
2022 Audi A3 performance and handling
Audi is known for building cars that are fun to drive and capable. The A3 is the entry-level model in Audi’s lineup, so don’t expect it to handle the premium sports car, but it does have some good power to offer. See the pros and cons of the Audi A3 performance.
Pro #1: Impressive acceleration and a lively fun engine
The 2022 A3 comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower. Its acceleration is fast and lively when you start, but that tenacity begins to weaken as soon as the A3 gets any real speed. Choose an Audi S6 with more than 300 horsepower and more powerful acceleration, but note the $10,000+ price difference.
Pro #2: Upgraded sport suspension system for improved handling
The 2022 Audi A3 line offers an upgraded sport suspension system as an optional extra for new models. Thanks to the upgraded mechanisms, the new A3’s handling is sharp and the steering provides excellent feedback. The Audi A3 with all-wheel drive reduces rolling by allowing better grip from the rear tires.

Con #1: Sport suspension that delivers a stiffer ride
Yes – surprisingly, the new sport suspension system plays a role in both Pro And the Deceive. While the updated suspension has improved the overall delivery, the overall ride quality suffers because of it. However, the Audi A3 comes standard with a non-sport suspension tuned, so that’s a soft trick.
Negative #2: Disappointing Bearish Turns
The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission found in the 2022 Audi A3 is perfectly usable but in no way inspires. It can ramp up with power when needed, but Cars.com notes that changing gear feels like it takes an eternity. It can cause frustration for the driver.
2022 Audi A3 interior and features
With a starting price of more than $30,000, consumers should be able to expect a comfortable, high-quality interior for the 2022 Audi A3 with plenty of tech features to please anyone. But does the A3 deliver? See the pros and cons of the Audi A3 interior.
Pro #1: Easy-to-use infotainment technology
The 2022 A3 comes standard with a 10.1-inch touchscreen that serves as the only monitor – which many reviewers prefer over the multi-screen setup offered in other Audis. The infotainment system is built with some push buttons and physical dials. Unfortunately, the cabin of the Audi A3 still forces you to use a touch slider if you want to adjust the volume from the infotainment system.
Pro #2: Lots of standard features
The new base model of the Audi A3 comes standard with three-zone climate control, heated leather seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a sunroof. Safety features include Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist and Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking. Does the base Audi A3 have all-wheel drive? It’s actually an option that can be added for around $2,000, but AWD is standard on the Audi S3.

With all the nice things we can say about the 2022 Audi A3, we can’t forget that we all have our flaws. And this affordable luxury compact car… has some flaws.
Cons #1: Lack of rear legroom and limited cargo storage
Cars.com reported uncomfortable seats for adults in the back seat due to limited rear legroom. Headroom for rear seat passengers is affected by the extremely impressive slope of the rear seat. The 2022 Audi A3 offers just 12.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk, which is less than many of its competitors.
Con #2: Surprisingly cheap interior design
This is one of the most disappointing negatives of the Audi A3. The cabin features more cheap plastics than we’d like, even in the front of the cabin where a truly luxury car should shine. There are soft-touch panels that only fit loosely under the definition of “soft,” and back-seat passengers might mistake your Corolla based solely on interior quality.
Is the Audi A3 worth buying?
Does the Audi A3 have some problems? surely. But are these problems enough to discount this car completely? We don’t think so.
Cars.com’s list of pros and cons is matched equally to the 2022 A3: four pros and four cons. The base model starts at $34,800, which is a very reasonable price for a luxury sports sedan. The 2.0L turbo engine is lively and fun to drive around. If you plan to drive a lot with more than one or two passengers, a larger sedan may be the better option. But if you want a good-sized compact sedan, the Audi A3 fits the bill.
