The BMW 118i, 128ti and 218i are given the Mzansi Edition finish that includes M sport components and contrast trim. Here’s how much they will cost in Mzansi.
This isn’t the first time BMW has indulged in its models by adding a locally beloved connotation to their nameplates in order to evoke a sense of pride and a South African flavor. Last year we tackled the locally manufactured BMW 3 Series and X3 Mzansi Edition and this year, similar to its predecessors, comes the BMW 1 & 2 Series Mzansi Edition.

So, what’s new in the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe models? Starting with the first series, two models were selected to receive local treatment from the lekker; The 118i and 128ti rival the GTI. Both come with an added bonus, with the BMW M Sport package that includes a high-gloss Shadow Line kidney grille and frame components while the edges have been quilted and now boasts a front spoiler insert, side sill detailing and a rear spoiler. The exhaust tips are finished in black chrome, while the BMW 128ti Mzansi Edition adds a carbon rear diffuser.
Class 1 Mzansi Edition models are equipped with red M Sport brake callipers that are concealed behind 18-inch alloys for the 118i and similar 19-inch hot-dip derivatives. The colors included in this local specification are Alpine White, Skyscraper Gray, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red Metallic and Misano Blue Metallic while Storm Bay Blue Metallic is available exclusively on the 128ti.
Updates to the cabin include sports seats in a Trigon and Senatec mix in black with M seat belts, BMW Live Cockpit Professional, panoramic sliding glass roof, and Hi-Fi speaker system for the 118i while the 128ti adds black painted sports seats and a red cloth with Sensatec.

A similar approach has been taken with the Mzansi Edition 2 Series Gran Coupé considering that it also includes an M Sport package with Shadow Line high-gloss detailing on the exterior. 19-inch rims are located inside the wheel wells and are available in Alpine White, Skyscraper Gray, Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red and Misano Blue.
In the interior of the Gran Coupé are black sport seats and M seat belts, along with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, sliding panoramic glass roof and Hi-Fi speaker.
The three versions are powered by familiar BMW mills ranging from the 103 kW, 220 Nm, 1.5 liter three-cylinder unit in the 118i and 218i Mzansi, to the 2.0 liter engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW 128ti Mzansi Edition generating 180 kW and torque It is 380 Nm
