The Honda Civic Type R 2023, a global high-performance icon respected by driving enthusiasts around the world, was revealed this evening at a special event in Los Angeles with NTT INDYCAR SERIES star driver Colton Herta behind the wheel. The all-new Honda Civic Type R is The most powerful model in the Type R’s 30-year history, it was built from the ground up to deliver thrilling performance with an addictive driving experience – both on the road and on the racetrack.
The pinnacle of factory Honda performance, the new Civic Type R is the fastest and most powerful Honda brand car ever in the United States.Based on the all-new eleventh-generation Civic hatchback, the Civic Type R combines class-leading performance with a low, spacious design and an immersive driving experience New high-performance enhances the driving pleasure.

The Civic Type R has been celebrated worldwide as a symbol of superior performance and desirability with six variants since its debut in Japan as a 1997 model. Only the second Civic Type R was ever sold in the United States, with the all-new 2023 Civic Type R registered A new record for front-wheel drive in a production car at Suzuka Circuit in Japan, home of the Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix 2022, ensures its legacy as the best performing Type R Civic ever.
Performance focused engineering
The new lightweight, rigid body helps improve high speed stability and sharp scalpel responses. Track-ready, tuned and tested on the Nürburgring, the famously addictive driving feel of the Civic Type R is made even more so by improving suspension and steering performance.
A more powerful and responsive version of Honda’s award-winning 2.0-liter turbo engine is paired with an improved six-speed manual transmission and Rev Matching for a more intimate and rewarding connection with the driver.
Powerful aerodynamic design
Longer, lower and wider, the new R-Type’s robust, sleek and sophisticated design features advanced aerodynamics integrated beautifully for well-balanced downforce, as well as reduced drag.
Powerful fenders flare over lightweight wheels wrapped in wider tires. A new, more aggressive front bumper design features a sporty honeycomb mesh grille that mimics the intricate honeycomb trim inside the cabin. The larger front grille and new side sill design behind the front wheels improve airflow efficiency. Its more aggressive appearance is evidenced by the wider R-Class-exclusive rear doors, a redesigned rear spoiler, and a reshaped rear bumper that reveals the triple circular exhaust outlets and a new rear diffuser.
The Civic Type R will be available in five stunning colors: Historic Championship White – an exclusive Type R finish revered by Honda enthusiasts, Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Gray Pearl.
Immersive cockpit experience
The all-new interior of the Civic Type R supports intense driving experiences with emotional, performance-focused details and features. Distinctive red Type R seats, carpet and trim, and a Type R sequential dashboard now located on the dashboard are new for 2023. Suede-like upholstery with a high coefficient of friction reduces body slip in high-acceleration driving situations.
The drive mode+R’s exclusive meter design allows the driver to instantly obtain necessary information, with a graphical engine rpm display, tachometer indicator lights, and a gear position indicator located on top. The lower multi-information display can display the vehicle information selected by the driver.
The Honda LogR™ data logger provides real-time information on the vehicle’s mechanical movements and vehicle behavior resulting from driver inputs. Other key features include a stopwatch to record lap times and the ability to share driving videos.
Pricing and additional details for the 2023 Civic Type R will be available closer to launch this fall.
