Tesla sold 75% of electric vehicles in the first quarter of 2022, maintaining its dominance in the US market

to me Kelly Blue Book (KKB), Tesla dominated the US electric vehicle market in the first quarter. Tesla vehicle sales accounted for 75% of all electric vehicles sold between January and March 2022.

Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y vehicles accounted for 68% of sales of the US electric vehicle market in the first quarter of 2022. Based on these calculations, Model S and Model X vehicles made up 7% of Tesla’s vehicle sales in the last quarter.

The Tesla Model Y came first as the best-selling electric car in the first quarter of 2022, followed by the Model 3 in second and the Ford Mustang Mach-E in third. The Model X and Model S were also ranked in KKB’s top 10 selling electric vehicles in the first quarter list at 4th and 7th place, respectively.

The large gap between sales of the Model 3 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E highlights Tesla’s dominance of the electric vehicle market in the United States. Tesla sold 43,707 Model 3 units in the first quarter, while Ford sold 6734 Mustang Mach-Ace in the same time frame.

Tesla delivered 310,048 cars in the first quarter of 2022, setting another record in the first quarter. First-quarter 2022 results were hampered somewhat by the Giga Shanghai shutdowns that occurred at a critical time in the quarter – towards the end of the three-month period. Tesla is also still dealing with ongoing supply chain challenges in the past quarter, similar to other automakers in the industry.

according to Automata Corp. Figures, electric vehicle sales rose during the first quarter of this year. While sales of electric vehicles gained momentum, the auto industry as a whole reported a 15.3% drop in new vehicle sales, indicating a shift toward renewable energy vehicles.

As more automakers produce electric cars, the competition for Tesla is growing. For example, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is another notable car that made it to KBB’s latest list of best-selling electric vehicles in the US for the first quarter. It came in fifth on KBB’s list, right behind the Model X and ahead of the Tesla Model S. During the New York International Auto Show, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 won three awards, including World Car of the Year.
