Tesla Semi 2022 confirmed in new video

Earlier this month, Elon Musk noted on Twitter that the 500-mile Tesla Semi variant would begin shipping this year. This isn’t the first time Musk has announced an impending Semi release, so his latest statement was met with some skepticism even among electric car fans. However, a recent post from Tesla’s Instagram account indicates that a Tesla Semi 2022 release may indeed be possible.

Tesla’s official Instagram account briefly uploaded an Instagram Story showcasing the all-electric Series 8 truck. And although the post was quickly taken down by Tesla, the Instagram Story caption, “Tesla Semi ships later this year,” can’t to be more clear. The post consisted of several new shots of the semi in action, both on the highway and in the Megacharger.

The Tesla Semis that appeared in a briefly posted Instagram story were the company’s new prototypes, which have some subtle but noticeable differences compared to the original Semis revealed in late 2017. These include extended windows, new door handles, and side mirrors that look ready for production.

Tesla’s reasons for its decision to pull its Instagram story about the 2022 Semi release remain unknown, although the videos were apparently intended to promote the upcoming 8 Series truck. The quality of the Tesla Semi’s shots was high, and every shot of the truck was new. Perhaps the reason for removing the Instagram Story was simply the timing of the post itself.

The Tesla Semi has the potential to be one of the company’s most disruptive cars, but also one of the most delayed. The 8-Series truck was revealed in late 2017, a time when Tesla was still discovering a lot of mass-production technologies. Tesla is a completely different company today, from its mass production capabilities to its use of next-generation battery cells. Given how much Tesla has matured over the past few years, an ambitious car like the Semi seems a perfect fit for the company today.

Before recently posting about the 2022 Tesla Semi release on Twitter, Elon Musk took a very conservative stance on the 8 Series truck. The CEO gave a number of interesting tidbits about the upcoming car, such as its potential use of 800-volt engineering. Speculation is also high that Tesla Semi will use the company’s 4,680 next-generation cells, possibly similar to the Cybertruck.
