Paul Lee appoints Dustin Heim and Jason Bunker as co-chairs of crew

Funny Car owner and driver Paul Lee has announced that Dustin Heim and Jason Bunker will be sharing tuning duties for his McLeod Dodge. Bunker was recently added and will immediately begin work with Heim and the rest of the team at their store in Brownsburg, Ind. Lee skipped the recent Las Vegas event as he looked to give his team a fresh start.

Bunker, a native of Northern California, has a passion that should compliment the entire team. He has been involved in drag racing since he was a teenager and has prior experience in Pro Modified, Nostalgia Funny Car, nitro Funny Car and Top Fuel.

“I am so excited to be joining the Paul Lee team,” Bunker said. “The opportunity to be fully involved with the nitro Funny Car team at Indy was the perfect next step for me and my family. Taking a look at the equipment Paul has purchased over the past two years, this team has all the potential to run with the best Funny Car teams in the sport. Working with Dustin is going to have a really great time, and we both can’t wait to hit the track in Houston.”

Lee recognized the need to develop new, young talent into the position of Crew Chief as the NHRA Camping World drag racing series continues to grow. The addition of several new teams this year has added bonus to crew chiefs and eligible crew members.

“I’m definitely ready for a fresh start to the NHRA 2022 season,” he told me. “Having Jason join Dustin as co-crew chiefs and replacing some key crew members with these two will give our team a new look and an exciting new future. I am looking forward to Houston and giving our loyal fans and marketing partners something to be happy about. We are planning to go racing and racing hard. Can’t wait to see Our new team is working.”

Given the recent development, Lee thought it would be appropriate to have a whole new start in Houston, so he unveiled a new color scheme for McLeod Dodge.

“We’re not just starting over as a team, we’re starting over with a new wrap, blueprint and new jerseys for the starting line as well,” Lee told me. “We will be including a ‘phoenix’ on the hood representing ‘A New Beginning Rising from the Ashes with Rejuvenated Youth’ for our team. I can’t wait for everyone in Houston to see the new car.”

Lee has competed in only three events this season and is currently ranked No. 16 in the NHRA Camping World Ranking, yet he is only 90 points from a place in the top ten with 18 races remaining in the season and 12 preseason. Countdown to the qualifying tournament.
