New Hulu Movies & TV Shows Coming in July

Holly Taylor and Keri Russell, Americans

Patrick Harron / FX

Summer movies are still a thing, they are in different places now. Skip the cineplex and stick to Hulu, because Hulu has a bunch of new movies (and shows) coming in July. The first is the original comic strip from Hulu the princess (July 1), starring Joey King as a medieval princess who decides to literally fight her way out of an arranged marriage into a total jerk. Later in the month, the original Hulu documentary will be eye-catching after the shock (July 19), which looks at the disproportionate mortality rate among black women after childbirth. There’s also Johnny Depp MinamataAnd the Bob Burgers moviehorror movie damnedZac Efron, He wentIrish horror movie You are not my motherAnd the exciting British movie All my friends hate me. And that doesn’t include all the usual licensed movies that come in at the top of the month.

On the performances side, FX’s Americans Heading to Hulu after longevity on Amazon Prime Video, so if your excuse for not watching Americans is “I don’t have Prime Video,” it’s time to find another excuse not to watch one of the best TV shows ever. Another FX title, What do we do in the shade?comes to Hulu in the middle of the month, as is Hulu’s original animation Solar opposites.

We’ve rounded up our picks for what to watch on Hulu in June, as well as lists of everything Hulu comes and goes for the month.

The best new movies and shows on Hulu in July

Bob Burger

Bob Burger

the princess (1 July)

Joey King is the embodiment of the “Call an ambulance, but not me” meme as a medieval girl who puts others in distress after she is betrothed to a sociopath (Dominic Cooper) bent on taking over her kingdom. The King holds up a gun (and axes, fists, feet, and more) and totally outsmarts the follies of fools in this perhaps comic action that sounds like a lot of feudal fun. [Trailer]

Bob Burgers movie (12 July)

If you love Bob Burger Offer, then there’s a 500 percent chance you’ll like it bob burger movie. In this massive episode, which performs double duty as a musical theater, a sinkhole opens in front of the restaurant, paralyzing businesses and unraveling a murder mystery when a skeleton is found buried under the street. Naturally, children take it upon themselves to solve it. Also, and that’s just a guess, Tina says something about the butt and/or the butt. Due to strange corporate licensing deals, the movie is also shown on HBO Max on the same day. [Trailer]

What do we do in the shade? (13 July)

One of TV’s best comedies from the grave returns for season four with plenty to cover after the two beloved vampires parted ways at the end of season three (or in the case of Colin Robinson, burst like a baby from his adult corpse). But the first episode is called “Reunion”, so we’ll assume they’ve taken the break to discover themselves on a backpacking trip in Europe. Season 4 premieres the day before on FX, but episodes arrive at Hulu the next day. [Trailer]

after the shock (July 19)

This documentary from directors Paula Esselt and Tonya Lewis Lee focuses on the maternal crisis that disproportionately affects black women who die soon after childbirth. The film follows the families of two women, Shmoni Gibson and Amber Rose Isaac, as they draw attention to this largely overlooked issue. [Trailer]

All my friends hate me (July 22)

Sure, ghosts and monsters are pretty scary, but there’s nothing quite like the real horror that comes from awkward situations. This British black comedy deals with the horror of social anxiety when a man reunites with his old college buddies on a trip only to suspect that they all hate him, or worse. It’s not paranoia if true. [Trailer]

Americans (29 July)

One of the best TV shows of the last decade is finally moving streaming services after living on Amazon Prime Video for as long as it has been streaming. The FX series stars Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell as Soviet spies living undercover as Americans in 1980s Virginia during the height of the Cold War, while raising their ungrateful children as regular Americans and befriending an FBI agent (Noah Emmerich) who lives next door. She won only four Emmys in six seasons, but was supposed to win about 20 more times. It’s near perfect TV with one of the best series finales ever. [Trailer]
