The current generation of the NSX is here after 2022, although some rumors claim it may return. But before you say sayonara, the Acura 2022 NSX offers the S-Type treatment. However, there is an affordable mid-engine sports car that can rival the heir to the original mid-engined, daily-driving supercar: the Chevrolet C8 Corvette. However, while the current-generation Corvette can keep up with more powerful and more expensive cars, is it nearly as fast as the 2022 NSX Type S? To answer that, the YouTube team choke house hit the dragstrip.

The 2022 NSX Type S might look like a more powerful and lighter version of Acura’s AWD hybrid if you take a look at its specs. But while it’s also so much more.
The 2022 NSX Type S is the sum of the continuous modifications Acura has made to the NSX over the past few years along with lessons learned during GT3 racing. That means things like retuned adaptive shocks and power steering, a faster transmission, a larger lithium-ion battery, new tires, and redesigned chassis and aero features. Also, every part of the hybrid drive system, from all-wheel drive (AWD) to torque vectoring, got new software, car and driver Says.
By comparison, the 2022 Chevrolet C8 Corvette is basically the same mid-engine sports car it was in 2020. Well, Chevrolet has installed an improved fuel pump and fuel injector, and there are some new colors as well as a limited-edition graphics bargain. But the 6.2-liter V8 still produced 490 horsepower; 495 hp with the Z51 package, which also adds better brakes, summer tires and an electronic limited-slip differential. The DCT eight-speed transmission also remains unchanged.
However, if you just compare 0-60 times, the 2022 C8 Corvette does not need any updates to beat the Acura NSX Type S. It should be noted that even with less power and more weight, the regular NSX has the same 0-60 times as the Type S at car and drivera test.
But one spec doesn’t make for a race.

choke house The 2022 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z51 ran against a Type S in two-mile drag races. The first was from standing start while the second was from rolling to eliminate traction problems. And here’s where the AWD versus RWD argument really begins.
See, launching AWD cars can be tricky, although launch control and sturdy tires help a lot with that. The NSX Type S has both. However, due to it being RWD, the C8 Corvette can’t effectively lower its power. So, while it’s easier to get started, it’s also easier to start exhausting.
Additionally, 5-60 times is 0-60 times better performance measures in the real world. Admittedly, the C8 Corvette’s 3.5-second time and 5-60 still beats the Acura NSX Type S’s 3.6-second time, car and driver reports. But the Type S returns by beating the paper in the ¼ mile. Finished 0.2 seconds ago with a 4 mph higher trap speed in car and drivermy hand.
In short, it’s still anyone’s game — uh, racing.
