CHARLOTTE, NC – The southbound portion of Interstate 77 approaching Rock Hill reopened after a multivehicle crash Friday in which a tanker truck overturned.

At noon, two of the four southbound lanes at the crash site reopened. Southbound delays extended several miles to Fort Mill as congestion worked to clear.

Crews had to pump fuel from the wrecked truck before any part of the road could be reopened.

No serious injuries were reported in the accident.

During the lockdown, drivers have been advised to use US 21 as an alternate route.

York County MPs have asked drivers stuck in traffic not to turn around and said there are many drivers who have done so, which could cause a crash.

Update: (9:00 a.m.) MPs are positioned on slopes to prevent drivers from going the wrong way. If you are stuck in #traffic, you are stuck. We hope to open two tracks soon. #YCSONews
