How to thoroughly clean your car

While regular servicing of your vehicle’s mechanical and electrical components is a must, frequently keeping the vehicle clean is also important. Here, we will discuss several easy tips and tricks to clean your cars inside and out yourself.

Why should your car be clean and tidy?

They say – hygiene is the first law of health. This quote remains true not only for living things but also for machines like cars. If your car remains clean and tidy, it ages well, which helps with its long-term performance and resale value. It also gives you the feel of using a newer vehicle, resulting in an enjoyable ownership experience.

Common car cleaning procedures:

There are many exterior car cleaning stores and solutions that can clean cars on their own. However, if you are someone who takes on the task yourself, here are some basic car cleaning steps to look out for:

  • Chassis panels cleaning
To wash exterior body panels such as doors, rearview mirrors, roofs, wheels, hood, trunk, and bumpers, first pre-rinse from top to bottom to remove all dirt and dust on them in lines, not in circles. Use two separate buckets – one for clean water and one for the soapy cleaning solution. After cleaning the panels with soap and water, rinse them with clean water and wipe them with a clean cloth. Do all these operations in the shade and not in direct sunlight, as the drying process in the heat can cause water spots.
  • cleaning lights –
Headlights, fog lights, and taillights can become very dirty and foggy over time. To remove the yellowish formation on these bulbs, apply a pea-sized whitening toothpaste to a dry cloth or toothbrush and rub it gently over the surface of these bulbs. After leaving it on for 15 minutes, rinse and wipe surfaces.
  • Seat cleaning –
To remove dust that has accumulated between seat crevices, use a good quality vacuum cleaner between those crevices and on seat surfaces. You can also use a toothbrush to scrape away small debris stuck in those cracks.
  • Floor and mat cleaning –
Start cleaning the floor by removing the mats first and dry cleaning or using a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt and dust stuck to their surfaces. After cleaning the floor rugs, vacuum the entire floor surface, especially in hard-to-reach corners.
  • Dashboard and console cleaning

To clean other interior panels, such as the dashboard, infotainment system, air conditioner panel, steering wheel, instrument console, and lower center console, use a clean microfiber cloth. For places that are difficult to clean with a cloth, such as air conditioner vents, cup holders, and interior door handles, use a paintbrush or a foam brush. Organize your belongings in places like glove boxes and luggage compartments.
