NILES – HomeGoods, the discount fashion and home décor retailer, is expanding its presence in Trumbull County with a new store adjacent to the Eastwood Mall, part of a series of construction and other openings in the retail complex.

Construction has already begun on the 22,112-square-foot HomeGoods store in Mine Road near Levin Furniture and Kohl’s — part of the Howland Commons area of ​​the complex that also includes TJ Maxx, a discount clothing store operated by TJX Companies Inc. It is based in Massachusetts. , the same parent company of HomeGoods.

HomeGoods is targeting a summer 2023 opening.

“Discussions have been going on for over a year, and in fact we were preparing that ground for future development long before that,” said Joe Bell, a spokesman for the Cavaro Corporation, which owns and operates the Eastwood Mall.

The store is on a 3.5-acre plot which is large enough to accommodate another store of approximately the same size.

“If you break it down, HomeGoods will occupy a little over 22,000 square feet, but still have an allowable building area of ​​about 24,000 square feet, so we can build another store right next door,” Bill said.

The next closest HomeGoods store is located in Boardman.

Last year, TJX Companies Inc. opened. A multimillion-dollar regional distribution center of 1.2 million square feet for the HomeGoods brand in Lordstown. The facility employs about 1,000 people.

Also, construction is expected to begin soon for a new Longhorn Steakhouse on approximately 1 acre at the corner of State Route 46 and Eastwood Boulevard, the site of a closed IHOP pie house.

The plan, according to Bell, is to demolish the IHOP and Longhorn Steakhouse for new construction and prepare to open in February.

Other planned new openings include children’s clothing store Carter’s by Thanksgiving in Howland Commons by TJ Maxx; and King Cajun Seafood & Bar near the Outback Steakhouse and Steak ‘n Shake. This 9,637-square-foot building formerly housed HomeTown Buffett, which closed abruptly about five years ago. The space has been completely renovated, including the new dining rooms and bar. Dishes inspired by New Orleans and Low Country cuisine will be featured on the menu.

In July, the 4,000-square-foot Venetia Nail Lounge & Spa will open in the Great East Plaza adjacent to the Buffalo Wild Wings and shortly after, the NrGize Lifestyle Café will open in the JC Penney Square in the mall. With an area of ​​975 square feet, this is a store that combines coffee and juices.

The Aimpoint Airsoft, a training range that uses Airsoft brand rifles that fires soft pellets at targets, has opened near the Boscov Department Store.
