This is not so sports carsBut they are limited-edition production cars designed for rallying, and road cars designed to pass homologation are such great specials.
Many of these cars take the form of hot hatchbacks, but which are the best?
Well, the guys at Goodwood have taken a look and according to them, these are the seven best hot slots for homologation ever.
Classic rally car: Lancia Delta HF
We won’t go into detail about all of them, but that’s what Goodwood says.
The first engine Goodwood starts with is the 1986 Lancia Delta HF all-wheel drive.
This car took over the Delta S4 when Group B ended abruptly after the deaths of Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto.
The car would win nine events in the 1987 WRC season and win six consecutive Manufacturers titles.
Next up is the 1988 VW Golf Rallye, and it was actually a Mk2 Golf with synchronous all-wheel drive in it.
It wasn’t a terribly good car, being very heavy and underpowered, but it certainly looked good.
Rally Car Hero: Small but mighty Peugeot 106
Next on the list is the Peugeot 106 Rallye and it’s a truly amazing little rally car.
When they dropped the TU’s four-cylinder, fuel-injected engine into the car, he converted it from its previous iteration.
And it looked good with its racing stickers and white wheels.
Driving was very enjoyable.
Nissan Sunny GTI-R 1990 is next.
The road version was… a bit cute, but with the WRC handling, it really became a Skylines little brother.
Its 2.0-liter SR all-alloy and turbo engine gave it 230 horsepower, and it was a very powerful machine; It also looked good.
Rounding Out Seven Homologation Specials
The 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth is perhaps the most extreme car on this list, which led to some unfortunate press, as the “joyrider” car; But it was great, especially with the Garrett T34 turbo and 227 hp.
The Mazda 1992323 GT-R might not look that special, but its 1.8-liter four-cylinder was a great engine, and Mazda threw it all in to give it 210 hp — strong brakes and suspension helped make this package great.
Finally, we have the 1994 Subaru Impreza WRX STI – the definition of “hot hatch” extends here; But the Impreza’s Boxer engine makes such a great sound that it alone deserves its place on this list. Plus 250 HP would make it a lot of fun.
