Drea de Matteo lists Los Angeles House – DIRT

Throughout the steep hills, wooded valleys and winding streets of Los Angeles’ famous Laurel Canyon are countless homes that have gone from one heavy hitter to the next. Case in point, a 1920s Spanish villa long owned by “Maltese hawk” star Mary Astor, which was later owned by Denny Doherty of the Mamas and Papas and rented by David Bowie.

Tax records show that about 18 years ago, the gorgeous pedigree palette was purchased for $2.1 million by another star, “The Sopranos” alum Drea de Matteo, who is now looking to sell Smidgen’s signature ridgeline oasis for less than $4 million. . The listing agents are Craig Strong and Kristen Nettercott of Compass.

Covered in trees and foliage, the antique home boasts celebrity-style privacy, painted in a variety of rich colors, and vibrantly tiled, inside and out, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus two powder rooms. The character-filled dwelling measures 3,400 square feet with an eclectic and highly personalized collection of antiques and collectibles enhanced with plenty of original details, including hand-carved wood ceiling beams, ornate wrought iron work, and glossy polished wood floors.

Behind the turreted entrance is a spacious living room with high ceilings, fireplace and French doors, a dining room that easily seats dozens of people, and a home kitchen complemented by a windowed breakfast nook. Other noteworthy spaces include a blood-red library/den, and a family/game room with crimson walls adorned with royal blue trim and leopard-print rugs.

Three guest bedrooms share one bathroom sheathed in mint green antique tiles, while the basic suite offers a small balcony, sunroom/situation room, walk-in wardrobe with more leopard-print rugs, and a buttery yellow tiled bathroom. It is located in the tower. (Denny was photographed bending over from one of the windows lining the tower.)

The house is surrounded by numerous patios, decks, and walled courtyards. One displays a tiled fountain, the other is protected by a wooden pergola, and the third is outside the living and dining rooms, overlooking the pool and spa. Outside the pool, a contemplative, framed valley view swings toward sunset across the surrounding mountaintops.

Being Laurel Canyon, or at least one of the highest points above Laurel Canyon, there is no shortage of homes currently and/or formerly owned by a notable entertainment industry in the vicinity: Ginger Rogers once lived in a tower house located behind a high wall and slotted into the rapid slope ; A house once owned by The Doors drummer John Densmore is currently for sale for $2.2 million; A French Normandy cottage with towers owned by Carol King in the late 1960s—the cover of her primary album “Tapestry” was filmed in the living room—and in the late 1980s by Courteney Cox; Punk icon and Rugrats composer Mark Muthersbaugh owns a sprawling contemporary mansion with sweeping views of the city.

Since winning an Emmy in 1999, for her pivotal role as Adriana La Cerva in The Sopranos, which is arguably one of the best TV shows ever, De Matteo has kept roles in “Joey”, “Desperate Housewives” and “Sons” from Mayhem. and “Shades of Blue.” She recently appeared in the Amazon Prime musical drama “Paradise City,” and will soon appear in “The Latin from Manhattan,” an independent biopic about legendary adult film star Vanessa del Rio.
