Text description provided by the architects. Over the years, Spasm Design has been called upon to design homes for families who enjoy our approach. What distinguishes Spasm is that we have always sought to build an engineering text with the specificity of the place, the people and the specific location. Material – copper, in this case, sheathing a well-ventilated facade around the house … It relieves intense heat and significantly increases the life of the construction. A loving exploration of the spaces below, above, and above ground connected by a network of courtyards from intimacy to property, the family was very outgoing in realizing a true piece of architecture.

This large multigenerational home occupies a large area of 2.5 acres. Spasm Design was asked to design a new way of living on a land inextricably linked with nature, meeting the needs of all generations from grandchildren to senior family members. The brief was large—includes entertainment areas, family living areas, kitchen area, temple, gymnasium, home theater, spa, pantries, bedroom suites, and single and team spaces. Several personnel and service structures were also needed along with a spacious garage. We chose to build a three-story house, an object that sinks, sits, and floats over the surrounding greenery. The intent is to provide a truly contemporary modern home with fully integrated Indian stone, timber, stucco, metal, etc.

Raw, copper inlay has already begun…to serve as a sign of his age, a breathing, aging, and graceful body. We enjoy celebrating the true uncoated textures of such a noble material. The body of the building is partly made of slabs of concrete and copper. Several passive and active climate strategies have been deployed to mitigate the scorching arid heat in Ahmedabad. Roofed lawns, buried programs, water features, misting, ventilated facade, pergolas, and grilles all come together to work in tandem to create a comfortable home. Various lights, furniture, marble objects, wood furniture, balustrades, etc. have been developed to order with the craftsmen on the team.

A truly satisfying experience, this build has been a true collaboration of builders, engineers, landscape architects, artists, craftsmen, metalworkers, facade specialists, marble sculptors, clients and us. Light, greenery, glorious Indian stone, luxurious carpentry will underline this project as we got Carte Blanche complete. So we look forward to the life of this project as it matures over the years…

The greatest reward was that the family had found the right atmosphere to live in a joint family way which soon lost its core in the modern nuclear Indian spirit. The lead client, our patron, said, “What more joy than living with my sons and seeing my grandchildren playing in the lawns.”
Architecture should unite the family….
