Blame the song as Reading stuns Blackburn 3-0 – read today online

READING FC beat leaders Blackburn Rovers at the head of the table at Select Car Leasing Stadium on Wednesday night.

The royals treated their fans to a high-octane performance, a far cry from last weekend’s defeat in Rotherham.

Paul Ince’s men provided the perfect response. Tom McIntyre turned a corner kick in the first half before Junior Hewlett fired home after the break.

Lucas Joao, who was involved in his first minutes of the season, added the third late goal.

Lumley 7: He rewarded his manager’s faith. We were pleased to receive an early claim that drew crowds. He made a great reflex after the break to deny Ashley Phillips from close range.

Yadom 7: He covered every leaf of grass, playing his part on both ends of the playing field. He kept Bretton Diaz’s side calm for the vast majority of the match.

Holmes 7: His contribution would be pleased. He was committed to the cause, especially in the air. He could have scored twice on another day.

McIntyre 8: She responded well to the criticism she received over the weekend. I got the score sheet with a great header from Tom Insey’s corner.

Guinness Walker 6: He did well and gave everything he had. He looked a bit shaky the few times he was tested defensively and was replaced by Abrefa with ten minutes left.

Howlite 8: Nice. He was positive in every game and deserved his goal, as he ran from the right flank and criticized Kaminsky. His understanding with Yeadum on the right is getting stronger as the week goes on.

Blame 9: He is arguably the best player on the field. Set the tone with countless interceptions and second balls are won. He seemed to glide around the pitch effortlessly. He was also instrumental in acquisitions.

Furna 9: His best performance in a Reading shirt so far. He hardly misses, does the basics well and adds offensive intent. He did incredibly well in making Joao’s goal. He would have caught his first reading goal had his first-half shot not cleared off the line.

Hendrick 6: He made a few loose passes early on but never gave up on the bogey. It wasn’t his best performance but he kept going and worked hard in midfield.

Ince 7: Bright. His constant charges created a hatred of opportunities at night. Two consecutive kicks resulted in a corner kick and then the first goal. He embraced his advanced role alongside Long, tracking him when needed.

long 7: Put himself down and fight for every loose ball. Much of his work was done with his back to goal in a selfless performance.

Joao 7: Its introduction gave Select Car Leasing Stadium a lift. He made the most of the 20 minutes, shooting home late. Show his class with some stylish touches.

Abrifa 6: He seemed secure again. He showed a desire to move forward.
