Audi A5 2018 review, specs, prices, and photos

Every 2018 Audi A5 model – coupe, convertible (cabriolet), and hatchback (sportback) – is offered in three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige.

The A5’s equipment list is generous on a basic level and it gets a lot more luxurious from there. We’re particularly fond of the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster in the new virtual cockpit. For these reasons, we give the A5 8 out of 10 for features. (Read more about how cars are classified.)

Premium features include eight-way power leather seats, automatic climate control, 10-speaker audio system, 7.0-inch driver information center screen, Audi MMI infotainment system with 7.0-inch center display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible , HD Radio, 2 USB Ports, Bluetooth, Rearview Camera, Ambient Interior Lighting, Xenon Automatic Headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights, LED Taillights, 18″ Alloy Wheels. The Sportback adds a power tailgate and panoramic sunroof, while the convertible model gets a powerful soft top.

Premium Plus adds heated front seats with driver’s seat memory; full LED headlights; Heated, auto-dimming and folding outside mirrors with memory; auto-dimming rearview mirror; Audi Connect Care remote technologies with roadside assistance, SOS calls, and locating the stolen vehicle; voice control; and Blind Spot Monitors with Rear Cross Traffic Alerts and Vehicle Exit Assist that warn if a vehicle is on its way when the door is opened.

Choose Prestige and you will get an alarm; satellite radio; faux leather on the center console and door armrests; Bang & Olufsen sound system; View the header of the peripheral view camera system; LED interior lighting; The digital instrument cluster for the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit; MMI with navigation and touchpad controller; and Audi Connect Prime, which adds offerings from Google Earth, Google Voice Search, and access to social media, Internet radio, and other local information. Audi Connect requires a monthly 4G LTE data subscription, but allows 4G LTE wi-fi hotspot.

Notable options include adaptive damping suspension, a cold weather package with heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel, and 19-inch wheels.

The Audi Premium Multimedia Interface (MMI) features a rotary dial controller with handwriting recognition for things like destination inputs. It comes with a central 7.0 or 8.3 inch screen and provides access to audio, entertainment, communications, and more. The system takes some time to master, but it quickly becomes intuitive and always responsive.

The virtual cockpit is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that works with the MMI to provide the driver with plenty of information. It has different screen views, including one with a large map right in front of the driver. It is controlled by the buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. Again, it will take some time to master, but we find it beautiful and informative.
