The US-spec 2023 Kia Sportage, the fifth generation of Kia’s compact SUV, is here. Unlike previous generations of the Sportage, but just like its fellow platformer, the all-new US-spec Hyundai Tucson, it’s available in a hybrid model. Take a look at what we know so far about the 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid for the US market:
Kia first introduced the Sportage as a concept in 1991 (Kia’s urban SUV concept) and then launched the production version in 1993. The compact SUV crossover has racked up five million sales marks in its fourth generation in 2018. Since its launch in In 1993, Kia sold more than six million units of the Sportage worldwide.
While the Sportage is Kia’s best-selling model globally, its fifth generation could add a few million units to the number as demand for the crossover model peaks worldwide.
The 2023 Sportage Hybrid incorporates Kia’s own design philosophy of ‘contradictory opposites’. Kia says their united antonyms consist of five pillars: ability to progress, stress for serenity, joy for reason, technology for life, and boldness for nature. The last pillar influenced the creation of the design to a great extent. The company’s designers in South Korea, the United States, Germany and China helped shape the all-new Sportage.
The new Kia Sportage was designed with a familiar look, but it used aggressive elements and appearance technology. Except for the unique 17- or 18-inch wheels and HEV badging, the Sportage Hybrid looks similar to the Petrol Sportage.
At the front, the hybrid SUV leaves an attractive appearance. Sharp, vertical Matrix LED headlights with LED daytime running lights in the boom shape and a larger, sharper black radiator grille that extends the width of the entire face for a dominant look.

With distinctive lines, muscular shoulder lines and a reimagined warmth, the 2023 Sportage Hybrid looks noticeably different. A noteworthy change is the traditionally designed tailgate frame, which makes the profile look more attractive. For the first time on the Sportage, Kia is now offering an option to paint the roof in a different color for the two-tone exterior.
The new Sportage Hybrid has what one can only describe as a quirky front end, but the rear is somewhat conventional. It comes with a very sharp LED taillight assembly, an arched indentation where the registration plate is located, and a large Kia logo just above it. The bumper has symmetrical secondary lights.
The US-spec 2023 Sportage Hybrid is available in LX, EX and SX-Prestige trims. It features a completely upgraded interior with a stunning dual-screen cockpit, a more elegant dashboard design, and a center console with reduced physical buttons. In general, the interior is a huge step up from the previous generation model.
The high-end Kia Sportage 2023 gets a curved panel that seamlessly integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, covering more than half the width. The panoramic curved screen, which Kia says is the “core” of the all-new Sportage’s cabin, reduces distortion from viewing angles. It facilitates identification of information and reduces driver distraction.
A new touchpad with climate and audio controls is located below the infotainment system. A 360-degree surround view monitor with 3D viewing is available for the first time on the Sportage. Bluetooth multi-connection technology, built into the EX and SX-Prestige Edge, allows two smartphones to be kept paired at the same time. Customers can save their profile, store climate preferences, infotainment information, and, in the EX, even pair a phone connection. Wireless charging and a Harman-Kardon premium audio system are among the other available interior features.
Slim vertical air vents hug two displays in the driver’s cockpit. The center console also has a more refined design, and it has a wire-shift dial instead of a traditional lever.
The floor console on the Kia Sportage 2023 has a high-gloss finish, and offers storage, cup holders and soft-touch switches, with the latter positioned next to the transmission dial. The front seats have a thin scalloped design, and the headrests incorporate hanger-type designs, allowing clothes and handbags to be attached.
Kia has incorporated several new smart features into the Sportage 2023. Kia Connect, a suite of connected car services, allows the vehicle to be connected to smart home devices such as lights and air conditioners. Smart speakers/smart devices with Amazon Alexa/Google assistant, cloud-based navigation route calculation, and stolen vehicle tracking and stabilization are some of the notable features of Kia Connect.
Kia has developed the fifth generation Sportage based on its new N3 architecture. This is the company’s first model to be available in short and long wheelbase versions depending on the market. We expect Kia to sell the Sportage Long Wheelbase in most regions around the world, where customers demand space.
The 2023 American Sportage is a long-wheelbase version, which is 7.1 inches longer than the previous model, and has a 3.4 inches longer wheelbase. The all-new model is a half inch longer, too. Kia claims best-in-class 41.3 inches of rear legroom and best-in-class cargo capacity behind the 39.5 cubic feet of rear seats.
