The Toyota Camry gets two updates for 2022, but nothing quite like a complete redesign of the mid-size sedan. Consumers can have their choice of a gas-powered or hybrid Camry, as well as thirteen models available. In addition to the many options, the Camry is safe and effective. No wonder the 2022 Toyota Camry has been recommended by both Forbes and TrueCar.
2022 Toyota Camry fuel-efficient mid-size sedan
The Toyota Camry has engine options from the base model LE with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, up to the range-topping V6. Forbes reported that the Camry LE accomplished 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg at highway speeds. Additionally, the Toyota Camry is available as a hybrid in LE, SE, XLE, and new for 2022, the SE Nightshade. Hybrids vary in fuel efficiency, with the Camry Hybrid LE achieving 51 mpg city and 53 mpg highway.
According to TrueCar, the hybrid numbers beat the Honda Accord Hybrid and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. Thus, the Camry Hybrid is both fuel efficient and a smart alternative to comparable Hyundai and Honda models.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry XSE V6 is less economical with the best-in-class engine. TrueCar reports that the XSE V6 cruises around town at 22 mpg and cruises on the highways at an average of 32 mpg. However, the lower fuel economy may be worth it. The 2022 Toyota Camry XSE V6 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces smiles and produces 301 horsepower.
The popular mid-size sedan from Toyota is the best choice for safety
In addition to fuel efficiency, the Camry prides itself on top marks in safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Toyota Camry a five-star rating. Also, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Toyota a Top Pick for Safety+, TrueCar says. Furthermore, IIHS considers it a good collision protection arbiter, given the scope of the tests. IIHS tests driver and passenger frontal impact factors, side impact, and roof crush factors.
In addition to crash protection, the 2022 Toyota Camry comes equipped with a host of safety features and technologies. The Camry comes with Lane Keeping Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Steering Assist, and Lane Departure Alert. Safety measures also include pedestrian detection and automatic high beams, with many optional safety add-ons that consumers can purchase.
Forbes has added the Toyota Camry to its list of recommended vehicles for safety and economy. Forbes awarded cars, crossovers, and SUVs based on IIHS safety awards, as well as optional emergency braking systems. To earn its place on the list, Toyota had to at least avoid collision or slow down by five miles per hour in the event of an initial crash. Camry passed all the tests and more.
The 2022 Toyota Camry is a good buy if you are looking for a sedan with safety and fuel efficiency credentials.
Toyota’s popular sedan has come a long way, and its latest iteration is no different. It earned 4.5 stars from TrueCar and a place in the Forbes Recommendations list.
