The A3 comes in three identical configurations, and it comes with a 2-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system. A 7-speed automatic transmission is available, along with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. All this gives the car excellent acceleration while being the best in its class in terms of fuel efficiency. Competing with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-250 and BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe, here are 11 things you need to know before acquiring a 2022 Audi A3.
11 Turbocharged Hybrid Engine Feels Lively Enough
A 2-liter TFSI engine with an all-new 48-volt hybrid system capable of producing 201 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Although the performance is a bit lower compared to the outgoing model, it’s still a punch-hole drive with excellent mid-range grunt. The turbo lag is well hidden as well, which makes it a great everyday driver.
Put your foot on any gear and the car will provide fast acceleration. It delivers a 0-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph. However, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-250 manages to produce a better 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds, due to the superior power of 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque it produces.
10 DSG transmission is rapid lighting
The 7-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission, which also saw duty in older model years than the A3, makes its presence in the 2022 model year as well. This makes driving a car more enjoyable. Although the car is by no means the most powerful, the transmission masks the lack of power with the help of fast shifts.
Put the transmission in sport mode, and it will get faster. Shifts aren’t choppy either, unlike some competitors, such as the CLA-250. With seven gears to play with, along with a fairly well spread gear ratio, the 2022 Audi A3 is the most economical offering in the small luxury sedan segment.
9 Sophisticated Interior Design
Compared to the older model years, this is where the Audi A3 got the most changes. The interior looks amazing due to the inclusion of premium materials, three different color combinations and the general attention to detail. All this also makes it a little more distinctive than the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe, similar to the Mercedes-Benz CLA-250.
The gloss black elements, aluminum inserts, leather upholstery look very luxurious, and the large air vents are unlike anything we’ve seen before. The leather steering wheel and quilted seats add to the elegance of the cabin as well.
8 Handling and driving dynamics of the first order
Being part of the fourth generation of the A3, 2022 is the first year to be produced in the US market. Compared to the European version of the A3, there seem to be no changes and that’s a great thing to know, especially in terms of handling and handling. This compact sedan feels solid around the corners, with great body control and precise steering.
When equipped with an optional four-wheel drive, the car stays on the road better. There is also no chief commissioner. However, the steering does not provide the best feel and feedback, similar to many other Audi offerings.
7 Fuel economy is surprising
This small sedan turned out to be the best in its class in terms of gas mileage. With a small, turbocharged 2-liter engine mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission, the car can surprise you with an excellent tank range as well, with the help of a reasonably large 13.2-gallon fuel tank. It gets a mild hybrid system, too.
The car delivers city gas mileage of 29 mpg and highway gas mileage of 38 mpg. This equates to a combined gas mileage of 32 mpg. If you choose the AWD variant, it delivers 30 mpg less mileage than the common gas. By comparison, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-250 delivers 39 mpg city, while the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe delivers 28 mpg gas mileage.
6 Exterior design matured
The design has seen a lot of upgrades, making it look more modern and sophisticated. The front end is distinguished by sharp LED headlights with LED DRLs, a hexagonal grille design, hood and bumper design, all of which help the A3 stand out.
The profile and rear are also advanced in the same modern design language. Sharp lines, 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in all-season tires, and below-average ground clearance are all on board. Apart from that, the black optical sports package and 9 exterior color palettes can be selected as well.
5 Great ride quality
The ride quality of the 2022 Audi A3 turned out to be very good. The front end of the A3 comes with strut front suspension, and the rear gets a multi-link setup with coil springs on all four corners. Anti-roll bars are also offered. All of this helps it retain the mature ride quality of the older generation across speeds.
Riding at slower speeds, the 2022 Audi A3 turns out to be quite resilient, even with the suspension setup tuned a bit on the stiffer side. Easily absorbs all pits and transfers only the largest pits. When traveling on highways, the ride was flat and this would make passengers very happy.
4 Reasonably spacious interior and cargo area
The front seat has great lateral support and groin support, which makes it a very comfortable sedan for driving around both cities and highways. Front seat passengers will also be pleased with the impressive height and legroom. The shoulder room is better than average and there are also powered heater functions.
The back seat is also spacious. Lower thigh support above average and enough legroom for this part. With enough shoulder room, the rear seat can accommodate 3 passengers with reasonable comfort. The seats are well padded too, making it a comfortable cruiser.
3 Information and entertainment are filled with features
The 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment system comes standard with all trim of the 2022 Audi A3 and is one of the most neatly arranged infotainment out there. The interface is polished and the learning curve is minimal. The display quality is great and you’ll have no problem watching it on the brightest of days.
When it comes to connectivity features, it comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB ports, Bluetooth, AUX, and many more. Other important things on board were the steering wheel controls, Audi Connect Care, external memory control, etc. The audio output through the 10-speaker Audi audio system was also great.
2 Safety has not been compromised
Several driver assistance features come standard with the 2022 Audi A3, making it an excellent tool for hitting the highways. Standard driver assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, Audi Pre Sense, backup camera, collision mitigation system, and more.
All the normal security features are also offered. If you opt for the Comfort package, which is offered for an additional MSRP of $1,900, the car gets a few driver assistance features, too. Apart from that, the build quality is top notch and this makes the travel experience higher than some of the Japanese competitors.
1 Amazing braking performance
The braking performance of the Audi A3 2022 is great, and the car stops at a dime a dozen. Although details of the size of the rotors have yet to be released, the four-wheel disc brakes along with all the braking features like regenerative braking, ABS, ventilated rotors, brake assist and hill control make for a precise braking experience.
With a 60-0 mph braking distance from 117 feet, it turned out to be better than the Mercedes-Benz CLA-250 and BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe. Being the lightest width in its class, the A3 has an excellent initial bite and minimal front dive. Braking progress is more than enough, too.
