First, today’s weather:

Partly sunny High: 85 Low: 69.

Here are the top three floors in Queens today:

  1. NYPD is investigating the theft of five cars from a body shop in Flushing. According to officers, at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 31, individuals entered Essential Auto Care at 73rd through a window. Once inside, the suspects took five cars and fled in different directions. One of the vehicles was recovered with its passenger, who was arrested, and three other unmanned vehicles. A video clip of two suspects has been released. (1010 wins)
  2. West Nile virus has been detected in a record number of mosquitoes in New York City, according to officials. The virus was detected in two people and in mosquitoes in all five neighborhoods. Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan recommends residents use EPA-registered insect repellents and wear long sleeves and pants to ward off mosquitoes. You can also reduce the risk of mosquitoes by removing standing water from your property and by eliminating containers that can collect standing water. (nyc.gov)
  3. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Felicia Menin has set a trial date for Lauren Bazinza, the Queens party planner accused of driving a Broadway singing coach to death. The accused did not speak in court as the judge set a trial date for October 6. Pazienza pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder charges for the March 10 death of Barbara Meyer-Jostern. Gustern’s coaching vocal credits include Debbie Harry from Blondie and Broadway. The Oklahoma cast. Prosecutors say Pazenza pushed Gustrin so hard, unprovoked, that she fell on her head.
